What Happened To The World's Second Largest Tower?

Every developed or newly industrialised country has a landmark skyscraper in the world that demonstrates its economic strength and great infrastructural excellence. But when it comes to India, we don't even have one such landmark skyscraper that will represent us in the world as Burj Khalifa does for Dubai and Shanghai Tower does for China. The lack of landmark skyscrapers in India can be attributed to various factors, including urban planning regulations, environmental concerns, and financial constraints. 

We will delve into these reasons in our next blog. But the question that arises is, had we never tried to make a landmark building for our country that would work as a revolution in the skyscrapers segment of real estate and would help us develop faster? India was also in the race to make a landmark skyscraper, and it was entitled to become the second-largest tower in the world with a height of 707.5 metres (2,321 feet) and 126 floors.

The proposed India Tower was not just a building, but a symbol of India's economic and infrastructural prowess. However, the Mumbai Civic Authority stopped the project and it was not just the project that got stopped but a dream. In today's blog, we will know the reason why the world's second-largest tower's construction was confined and how it was started.

You have always wondered," Which Is The Tallest Tower In India? ” The India Tower in Mumbai was entitled to fulfil the dream of making a landmark structure in India, and that too with the title of being the second tallest tower in the world with a height of 708 metres along with 126 floors after Burj Khalifa.

It was the second-longest tower that would not have just increased India's tourism sector but would also have a transformative effect on the country's infrastructure. The tower was expected to serve as a model for future infrastructure projects, showcasing India's capabilities in building large-scale structures and attracting foreign investment. However, the dream to build this extraordinary structure was stabbed by the Mumbai Civic Authority.

 

Why India Tower Cancelled?

The Dynamix Balwas Realtor Group first proposed the project under the name of Park Hyatt Tower in 2008. The group's proposed plan consisted of an 85-story tower with a height of 301.1 metres (988 ft). But soon the plan was dropped and revived in 2010 again. In January 2010, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation authorised the tower's construction on a site located at Charni Road in Girgaon, southern Mumbai, just north of Mumbai's historical CBD (Central Business District). 

However, in May 2011, a financial dispute between the builder and the Mumbai Civic Authority arose, leading to a halt in the construction work. The Mumbai Civic Authority, unable to resolve the dispute, was forced to cancel the project on 16 October 2015.

 

Summary

The India Tower was cancelled due to a lack of cooperation between the builder and the authority. This cancellation serves as a stark reminder of the challenges that can arise in large-scale infrastructure projects and the need for better planning and coordination.

In order to complete such paramount and dream projects, it is important to have great financial planning and harmony between everyone involved in the building's construction. The cancellation of the India Tower project was a setback, but it was not the last landmark skyscraper that was entitled to be the representative of Indian infrastructure in the world.

India is growing a lot faster in terms of economy and infrastructure, and hundreds of such towers will be constructed. Many of them will become landmarks for India in the world. Still, next time, the builder, as well as the authorities, have to cooperate and learn from past mistakes so that with the utmost harmony, we can build such projects with efficiency and viability.
